Higher Education Relevance and Quality Agency (HERQA)

In 2003, the ministry of education formed the Higher Education Relevance and Quality Agency (HERQA) which is aimed at reforming and expanding Ethiopia's higher education sector. Since then, HERQA has been assuring the quality of study through accreditation and institutional quality audits.

One of the key cornerstones of HERQA is to encourage and assist the growth of organisational culture in Ethiopia’s higher education programmes which values quality and dedicated to continuous improvements of both the country and the people within.

The HERQA Mission

The mission set out by HERQA has been formulated on the basis of the relevant articles in the Higher Education Proclamation (351/2003). HERQA strives to ensure high-quality and relevant higher education programmes in Ethiopia. HERQA assures their stakeholders that the accredited Higher Education Institutions are of appropriate standards and that the courses offered are of the highest standards. It also assures that the programmes are relevant to the world of work and to the development of the country.
